A day in the life of two young soldiers on the Western Front in June 1917. What seems a typically "routine" day in the trenches, reflecting the experience of so many veterans, ends in tragedy for both men. A prequel and conclusion to Wilfred Owen's powerful poem, this play commissioned by Sinfonia Viva and produced by The Lost Boys features as part of the 14-18 commemorations and centenary of WWI.
Looking Back
The opportunity to work with Sinfonia Viva and the wonderful playwright Peter Roberts again, was something to be relished, especially as part of such a historic commemoration. The scale of the project was also large and we worked with the orchestra and as part of the schools programme to deliver several separate elements culminating in performances in Derby and Nottingham. Our play would sit before Benjamin Britten's War Requiem providing a full evening of remembrance. All of this was funded and supported by Arts Council of England, The National Lottery, Forman Hardy Trust and The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
This was The Lost Boys second foray into the world of poetry, blending it with live performance. However, the magnitude of the poem's meaning really helped us deliver.
